Abstract

In this case, students are introduced to entrepreneur, Mary Louise Bernard, who wanted to publish a storybook as a complementary product for her Indian Maiden brand of maple syrup. The storybook would relate the Mi’kmaw legend of how maple syrup was discovered, a story that she told to tourists and others purchasing her maple syrup. While learning about traditional publication routes, Mary Louise became concerned about the amount of control she would have over the final product, particularly in terms of its visual components. She had to decide how best to proceed.
