Effective One-Step Synthesis of Silica Supported 1,3-Dibutylimidazolium Acetate for Carbon Dioxide Capture

Abstract

A new methodology has been developed to immobilize 1,3-dibutylimidazolium acetate on the surface of amino-propyl functionalized periodic mesoporous silica materials via an efficient one-pot synthesis. FTIR and solid state C-13 NMR analysis confirmed the presence of the supported 1,3-dibutylimidazolium acetate compared to the separately prepared pure ionic liquid 1,3-dibutylimidazolium acetate. The resulting materials were investigated for use as possible capture reagents for carbon dioxide.
