Membertou Hotel

Abstract

In this case, students are introduced to the community of Membertou, located within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality on Cape Breton Island. In 2009, chief and council looked to develop the area around the community's trade and convention centre by building a hotel. They had to decide where to locate the hotel based on several considerations, such as the limitations of and opportunities provided by building on either reserve or fee-simple land.
